Our 8 Favorite Places to Get Remote Work Done

Head to Ward for a grocery store sanctuary, Kailua for some locally sourced coffee or another one of these remote work-friendly spots.

Although pandemic restrictions have lifted, many jobs and classes have remained online. As more educational and professional spaces are now choosing to take the remote route, public places to study are rising in popularity. Here are some of O‘ahu’s best Wi-Fi-provided sites to get some remote work done—and they’re not all coffee shops.

If you’re less of a coffee person and more of a boba lover, Taste Tea in Kaimukī is the perfect place to set up studying camp. Although this joint is small, most of its business comes from takeout orders, so it has plenty of seating. If you need a little brain break, take your chances with a claw machine or get a richly flavored shave ice. —VH

This coffee shop in Wahiawā doubles as a sustainable surf shop. The crew sells sustainable surf products and makes their own boards out of the invasive albizia tree, naming their brand after it. Public Libraries

Public libraries are some of the only places where you truly don’t have to spend money to use the space and Wi-Fi. With 51 libraries in the only statewide system in the U.S., every neighborhood offers something different. I like to head to the Hawai‘i Kai Public Library when it’s too hot at home, taking advantage of the air conditioning as well as browsing the bookstore downstairs. Plus, unlike coffee shops that often close by early afternoon, most branches stay open until 4 p.m. and some as late as 7 p.m. —KV
