Turkey Favor

The holidays are just around the corner. Here is a fun turkey favor project that you can do with your keiki. Your keiki can make it and give it as a Thanksgiving present to thank someone special.

Supplies:

• 1 Styrofoam egg (size: 2 5/16-inches-by-

3 1/16-inches) for the body

• 1 Styrofoam ball (size: 1 inch) for the head

• 1 brown chenille stem (pipe cleaner)

(size: 1 1/2 inches in length) for the neck

• 1 red chenille stem (size: 1 inch in length)

for the waddle

• 1 tan/yellow chenille stem (size: 3/4 inch to 1 inch in length) for the beak

• 5 to 8 feathers, color of your choice, for the tail

• 2 eyes

• Brown paint

• Paint brush

• Glue (clear)

• Wire cutter (to cut chenille stems)

Directions:

1. Cut Styrofoam egg in half (length-wise). There will be a smaller end and a larger end.

2. Paint the 1/2  Styrofoam egg and Styrofoam ball. You may need more than two coats of paint, depending upon the desired texture. Let the paint dry.

3. Pick out five to eight feathers. On the smaller end of the Styrofoam egg (flat side down) attach the feathers in a row about 1/2 inch from the edge of the egg to make the turkey’s tail.

4. Cut the brown chenille stem (pipe cleaner) to 1 1/2 inches in length. Stick one side of the chenille stem into the Styrofoam ball.

5. Cut the red chenille stem to 1 inch in length. Fold the chenille stem in half. Stick the red chenille piece into the base of the ball where the brown chenille stem and Styrofoam ball meet. This will be the turkey’s waddle.

6. Stick the other side of the brown chenille stem into the larger end of the Styrofoam egg (flat side down). This will be the neck and head of the turkey.

7. Glue on the eyes.

8. Cut the tan/yellow chenille stem to 1/2 inch or 1 inch in length. Fold the chenille stem in half. Stick the tan/yellow chenille piece into the ball between the eyes and the waddle to create the turkey’s beak.

Optional: If you’d like to add wings, please glue feathers to the sides of the body.
