On View in Kaka‘ako

Every year, we look forward to the Maneki Neko Show put on by our friends at home boutique Fishcake. Local fine artists create work inspired by the lucky Japanese cat figurine and, as you can imagine, it results in a fun and unique assortment. This year’s mix includes everything from little glass paws and glittery tufted wall hangings to an ultra-cool Lauren Trangmar print. The exhibit runs through Nov. 25, but if you’re looking to take a piece home, most are one-of-a-kind, so we’d suggest heading on over right meow. 307c Kamani St., (808) 800-6151, fishcake.us, @fishcakehawaii

Cozy Up

Did we hear someone say “sweat-ah weath-ah?” Sept. 23 was officially the first day of fall, and we’re ready for its cooler temps, if only so we can scoop up the latest blanket release from Laulima Hawai‘i. The cozy throw features gorgeous illustrations of endangered native Hawaiian honeycreepers, and a portion of the proceeds goes toward protecting local fauna. $145, laulima.store, @laulimahawaii

Coconut Girls Forever

If you missed the collab (and its killer merch) Aloha Got Soul did with Kalapana, here’s your chance to get in early on the next one. In celebration of the 40th anniversary of his hit “Coconut Girl,” the record label teamed up with Brother Noland on a special 7-inch vinyl release. Available from Sept. 30, “Coconut Girl 1983 and 2023” includes both the original song and a modern version featuring a slew of local cameos, plus cover art by Punky Aloha. Merch drops first at the Sept. 30 release party happening at Wai Wai Collective. $15, 2017 S. King St., alohagotsoul.com, @alohagotsoul, @ags.honolulu

The Simple Life

Eco-boutique For Simple Sustainability opened quietly this spring at Ward Centre, and we’re smitten with how owner Keely Nakama mixes her aesthetic wares with vintage touches that nod to old-school Hawai‘i. Hit the refill station, snag some upcycled aloha shirts and shop green finds for home, pets and keiki.
